How to add a user for a colleague
Never share your own login. Give each person their own, with only the access they need. If they leave, you remove theirs and nothing else changes.
How to give someone their own login with the right level of access
Their name and email address
Watch: “User management”, an official video from WordPress. It shows the same job on their own demo site, so your screen may look a little different. The written steps below are the ones to follow.
Open Users
In the menu on the left, hover over Users and click Add New User.
Enter their details
Type a username and their email address. The username can’t be changed later.
Choose a role
Pick Editor for someone who will edit pages and posts. Pick Author for someone who only writes blog posts. Avoid Administrator unless they need to manage the whole site.
Send the invitation
Leave Send User Notification ticked and click Add New User. They’ll get an email with a link to set their own password.
Remove someone who's left
Go to Users, hover over their name and click Delete. When asked, choose to give their content to another user so nothing is lost.
Common mistakes
I can't see the Users menu.
Your own login isn’t an Administrator. Ask us to add the person for you.
They didn't get the email.
Ask them to check junk, or to use Lost your password on the login page.
They can't open Elementor.
Their role may not allow it on your site. Tell us and we’ll adjust it.
Still stuck?
Tell us which page it’s on and what you’re trying to do. We can talk you through it or make the change for you.
