How to log in to WordPress

To edit your website you first log in to the dashboard. It’s a private area that only people with a login can see.

You'll learn

How to get into your website’s private area and what to do if you forget your password

Takes

About 3 minutes

You'll need

Your username or email address, and your password

1

Go to your login page

Type your website address into your browser followed by /wp-admin, for example yourbusiness.co.uk/wp-admin. Save this page as a bookmark so you don’t need to remember it.

2

Enter your details

Type your username or email address and your password, then click Log In. On your own computer you can tick Remember Me to stay logged in for longer.

3

If you've forgotten your password

Click Lost your password? under the login box. Enter your email address and WordPress will send you a link to choose a new one. Check your junk folder if it doesn’t arrive.

4

Log out when you've finished

Hover over your name at the top right of the screen and click Log Out. Always do this on a shared computer.

Common mistakes

It says my password is wrong.

Passwords are case sensitive. Check Caps Lock is off, or reset it with Lost your password.

The reset email never arrives.

Check junk first. If it still isn’t there, tell us and we’ll reset it for you.

I've been locked out after several tries.

Wait a while before trying again, or get in touch.

Still stuck?

Tell us which page it’s on and what you’re trying to do. We can talk you through it or make the change for you.
