How to undo almost anything

Almost every mistake on a website can be reversed. Knowing how takes the worry out of editing, so learn this before anything else.

You'll learn

The four ways to put things back when an edit goes wrong

Takes

About 4 minutes

You'll need

A page open in Elementor to practise on

1

Undo the last thing you did

In Elementor, press Ctrl + Z on Windows or Cmd + Z on a Mac. Each press steps back one change. Press Ctrl + Shift + Z or Cmd + Shift + Z to step forward again.

2

Leave without saving

Nothing you do in Elementor is live until you click Publish. If you’ve made a mess, close the editor without publishing and your live page stays exactly as it was.

3

Go back to an earlier saved version

Every time you publish, Elementor keeps a copy called a revision. Open History, choose the Revisions tab, pick an earlier date and click Apply. The full steps are in the lesson on revisions and history.

4

Restore a backup

If something bigger has gone wrong, the whole website can be put back from a backup. If you host with us, we keep backups and can do this for you.

Common mistakes

I undid too much.

Press Ctrl + Shift + Z or Cmd + Shift + Z to redo.

I closed the editor and it asked whether to leave.

That’s Elementor checking you meant to leave without saving. Choose to leave if you want to throw the changes away.

I deleted a page by accident.

Go to Pages and click Bin at the top of the list. Hover over the page and click Restore.

Still stuck?

Tell us which page it’s on and what you’re trying to do. We can talk you through it or make the change for you.
