What you can safely change, and what to leave alone
Most of your website is safe to edit. A small number of settings can cause real problems if they’re changed by accident. This lesson tells you which is which.
You'll learn
Which parts of your website are yours to edit and which are best left to us
Takes
About 3 minutes
You'll need
Nothing, just a few minutes
1
Safe: words, photos, links and blog posts
Changing text, swapping a photo, updating a button link and publishing a blog post are everyday jobs. If one goes wrong you can undo it in seconds.
2
Safe with care: adding sections and pages
Once you’ve done the Elementor lessons you can add new sections and build new pages. Copy something that already exists on your site so the style matches.
3
Leave alone: plugins, themes and updates
Don’t install, delete or update plugins or themes yourself unless we’ve agreed it. One update that doesn’t suit another can take a site offline.
4
Leave alone: Settings and Site Settings
The Settings menu in WordPress and Site Settings in Elementor control the whole website at once. A change here affects every page.
5
Leave alone: the header, footer and menu design
You can change the wording and links in these, but their layout is shared by every page, so a small slip shows everywhere.
Common mistakes
I've changed something in Settings and the site looks wrong.
Don’t keep trying things. Tell us what you changed and we’ll put it back.
I'm not sure whether something is safe.
If it changes one page, it’s usually fine. If it changes the whole site, ask first.
Still stuck?
Tell us which page it’s on and what you’re trying to do. We can talk you through it or make the change for you.
