How to edit your website menu

Your menu is the row of links at the top of your website. When you add a new page, it won’t appear there until you put it in.

You'll learn

How to add, remove and reorder the links in your main menu

Takes

About 5 minutes

You'll need

To be logged in, and to know which page you want to add

1

Open the menu screen

In the menu on the left, hover over Appearance and click Menus. Check that the menu named at the top is your main one.

2

Add a page

In the Pages box on the left, tick the page you want and click Add to Menu. It appears at the bottom of the list on the right.

3

Put it in order

Drag the items up and down into the order you want. Top of the list is the left of your menu.

4

Make a drop-down

Drag an item slightly to the right, underneath another one. It becomes a drop-down link under that item.

5

Rename or remove a link

Click the small arrow on an item to open it. Change the Navigation Label to rename it, or click Remove. Removing a link doesn’t delete the page.

6

Save

Click Save Menu, then visit your website to check it.

Common mistakes

I can't see Menus under Appearance.

Your menu has been built a different way. Tell us what you’d like changing and we’ll do it or show you where.

My menu is too long and wraps onto two lines.

Keep it to six or seven items. Move the rest into a drop-down or the footer.

I changed the menu and nothing happened.

You may have missed Save Menu, or edited a different menu such as the footer one.

Still stuck?

Tell us which page it’s on and what you’re trying to do. We can talk you through it or make the change for you.
