How to write and publish a blog post
Adding a post is like writing an email with a few extra boxes. You don’t need Elementor for this one.
How to add a new article with a title, a picture and a category
Your text ready, and one photo to go with it
Watch: “Creating posts and pages with the WordPress Block Editor”, an official video from WordPress. It shows the same job on their own demo site, so your screen may look a little different. The written steps below are the ones to follow.
Start a new post
In the menu on the left, hover over Posts and click Add New Post.
Add your title
Click where it says Add title and type a clear headline. Say what the article is about in plain words.
Write your article
Click underneath the title and start typing. Press Enter for a new paragraph. To add a subheading, type /heading and press Enter.
Choose a category
In the panel on the right, open Categories and tick the one that fits best. Categories group similar posts together.
Set the featured image
In the same panel, open Featured image and click Set featured image. Upload your photo or pick one from the Media Library. This is the picture shown beside the post on your blog.
Publish
Click Publish at the top right, then Publish again to confirm. Click View Post to see it live.
Common mistakes
I can't see the panel on the right.
Click the settings icon at the top right of the screen, next to Publish, to bring it back.
I'm not ready for it to go live.
Click Save draft instead of Publish. You’ll find it under Posts when you come back.
I spotted a mistake after publishing.
Open the post again, fix it and click Save. The change is live straight away.
